When she walked alone, she saw her single footsteps creating the feature of shadows on the sunny road, walking on tip toes behind her, and she thought- what if they ought to leave her one day, vanish without a mark?
In a dream she saw her foot shadows walking along a long road into moonlight, where her love might be found. This she had known after waking up in ablaze of the sandman’s beam, and with no hesitance she went out of her house that evening and walked a random path, which, she believed, will be her final way to her desire.
There she had passed a park with a lake, ornamented by statues and monuments of a dying era of the past, belonging only to the muse of others. She saw the green grass, lightened by the sun, which was waving goodbye to an end of another day, and the sunset this time wore much of a cold color than before, and that was odd for her. But she learned to like it in the very first minutes. The trees arose like fine gentlemen, their hats made of big branches and leaves, so beautiful they almost could touch the clouds. The lake was sparkling cold air, blinking with the last shreds of sunlight, and diminishing into cold black, darker than the evening sky. She stood by the lake, leaning on a trustful tree, looking at the black water’s park. It was enchanting and calming, and oh how did she hope for that glimmer of inspiration, for which she had longed too much, but sadly- it did not come. The dim face of the sky came almost to its spring as the night started to cover the atmosphere. A slight wind was blowing, and she started to realize that maybe she shouldn’t leave this place, and possibly here her love could be found, or maybe- something else?
She observed the monuments, all rich in design, from hair till clothing, which were shawls or togas, so graceful that they did not fear the cold of winter, mainly because they were solid stoned to their feet. As she was overwhelmed by their magnificent and almost lifelike outlook, she remembered herself as a child, coloring her drawings which were only black lines over a white page, imaging different characters who desired to be colored and brought to life. And she had always imagined that when they were colorless, they were made of stone, but as soon as her crayon had touched them, they arose and broke the crust, and became real creatures who could feel hot and cold, love and hate… Thus, after watching the sculptures in the park, she imagined the graceful gods awoke, as their head will turn to her direction and say: “Yes, may I be of assistance?” And she would tenderly bow in front of them and ask: “Can you tell me where I need to go?” and no answer would be heard, because the illusion would break and they will be still made of stone, or marble, or whatever was the substance which locked their body.
But a slight change was made as she recalled that illusion. As the moonlight embraced the park, overlooking every corner of live nature, something had changed in the feature of the goddess she was looking at. The woman was standing still, but shivering a bit, and when she noticed the constant gaze about her, she spread her arms and yawned with her mouth wide open.
Our hero shook her head, blinked as if it was another imagination, but it was not! The goddess turned her head in an elegant manner and blinked as well, turning her head a bit to the side as if wandering what was so interesting that the girl saw in her image.
“Yes, may I be of assistance?” The sculpture asked and the girl shrieked, took a few steps back and rubbed her eyes. She couldn’t guess what should be her answer. But the goddess wasn’t patient enough, and asked “What is your name?” feeling awkward again, the girl shivered a bit, and looking into the sculpture’s very grey eyes, said “Aurora”. The goddess was surprised to hear the answer and said “Why, that’s my name as well!” she looked happy, though Aurora couldn’t understand how could that be. “Why?” she asked and the goddess chuckled. “I am the goddess of sunrise, Aurora. Don’t you know that is what your name means?” She looked amused, but also kind in a way, like someone who would not want to harm. Aurora shook her head in confusion and solemnly coiled her palms together. “What do you want, is for that you awakened me?” the goddess asked and Aurora’s eyes grew bigger with surprise. “I didn’t wake you up!” she said, and the goddess wondered for a bit, with her head deviated to the side. “Then I woke up because you arrived, this should be it.” She said. “What could it mean?” helplessly asked Aurora. “Don’t you know?” said the goddess and integrated her hands. “I don’t think so…” Aurora felt guilty for causing a paranormal event of such by mistake, but the goddess seemed to wear her nice and caring face again: “Why did you came here then, my child?” she bended towards Aurora who was feeling a bit uncomfortable. “To… find something, but I’m not sure that was what I was searching for…”. “Was it love, my dear?” the goddess took Aurora’s hand, which made Aurora tremble before the grey stone-like palm that felt so alive, and due to it’s faded color looked deceivingly dead. “Yes, it was, but I want something else then that.” Aurora said. The goddess stepped down from her throne on which she was standing all along and sat on it instead, still holding Aurora’s hand. “Then what is it?” this made Aurora think a bit for a good answer. “I think I was searching for a friend….” She went into thinking again, “because I don’t really have friends, not for real…”. The goddess said: “Then for what, if not for real?”. “I just feel lonely, I wish for company and there is no such” Said Aurora and sounded to herself too specific, but still wondered if what she had said was the clear truth. The goddess looked deep into her eyes, which for Aurora was about a minute of black stair of pale grey eyes which exposed nothing, but the goddess felt otherwise. “Maybe you should search for your company? Have you tried?” Aurora answered that her tries were unsuccessful.  And then, the goddess stood up and took Aurora’s second hand. “Maybe you should come with me, and become a sculpture? You don’t need to worry about things like friendship as long as you’re a sleeping stone.” But that seemed too cruel for Aurora, she said: “but wouldn’t that be like dying?” the goddess shook her head, “No, my dear, it would be like becoming a jinni, which could help one specific person in this world, like I am helping you now. Somewhere nearby there is a being who needs help from a lone sculpture who could solve one need of his. Imagine you helping him or her and making them smile the next day, or even their whole life?” Aurora was stunned by the goddess’ words, and gave it a momental thought. This sounded simple, but could she still feel lonely? “That one person is going to be your friend for the rest of his or your life. You will feel great pleasure and happiness at the minute you will find him, and if he will not wake you up, then you will be awakened, just like me.” Aurora asked: “Will he share my name?”
“Not necessarily,” said the goddess, “but his life will be changed for good thanks to you, and you won’t need to worry if your help will be provided, because it definitely will be.”
Aurora loosened her hands from the goddess’ grasp, and silenced in thoughts. The night was dark and chilly, quiet in the hands of the lake and the park. As Aurora was taken by the slight tension and debate, the stars pierced the sky like marbles over a night gown of a princess.
“Dear goddess,” Aurora suddenly said and caught the goddess’s full attention, “I am much grateful for your kindness, help and attention. Your invitation sounds delightful, yet I cannot let myself go too quickly into your frozen world. I am willing to search for the company I desire once more, and if my mind will change, then I shall come to you again and receive your offer. Thank you for introducing me this path which I haven’t been aware of, and I shall consider it again when I will be ready to. Until then, I shall roam for the thing I desire.”
The goddess smiled at Aurora and stood up on her throne as before. “Good luck, my dear, at your journey to sunrise.” And she took her previous beautifully paralyzed pose. Aurora looked at her face, deliberately changing into solidness, like a shield. She smiled, and after thanking the sculpture once again, walked slowly back home.
I can write again! Oh Glory!!!
